The lion is the king of beasts and therefore very feared.

Lions are the only predatory cats in which males wear a mane, clearly distinguishing them from females.
The larger a lion´s mane, the more fearsome it is to intruders, from whom it defends the territory. Lions are also the only ones that hunt together in a pride - though this task is usually left to lionesses. Since they are not particularly fast, unlike the cheetah, they use their strength as a pack. They stalk from different directions, circling their prey and taking advantage of the element of surprise. This allows them to take down large ungulates such as zebra and blue wildebeest to buffalo and weak elephants.
It takes five years for a male lion´s mane to fully develop.
